General FAQs
What is a mobile vet?
A veterinarian who travels to your home in a fully equipped vehicle to provide services, eliminating the need to transport your pet to a clinic.
Why choose one?
Utilizing a house call service reduces stress, saves travel time, offers personalized care, is ideal for fearful/immobile pets, and convenient for busy owners.
Services & Capabilities
What can they do at home?
Exams, vaccinations, blood draws, diagnostics such as X-rays, FAST scan ultrasound, surgery, dentistry, behavioral consults, chronic disease management, hospice care, and euthanasia.
What can’t they do at home?
Major surgeries, complex dental procedures, advanced imaging (MRI, CT, full Ultrasound) and more extensive or invasive diagnostics.
Do they have equipment?
Yes, we are a mini-clinic on wheels, with digital X-rays, dental equipment, ultrasound, a dedicated surgery room and a treatment area.
Preparing for a Visit
How to prepare?
Please have your pet’s vaccine and medical records handy (if a new patient). Keep your pet leashed/crated or in a small room for safety and efficiency. Have a quiet space ready, and prepare a list of questions/symptoms.
What if my pet is difficult?
We utilize low stress handling methods. If needed, we can prescribe oral sedatives to be given prior to an appointment. These sedatives do not “knock them out”, but provide much needed anti-anxiety support. “Sticky” wraps and Cozy Cat Wraps are often used for comfort and safety during exams or blood draws. Muzzles are utilized when other options are not effective enough to ensure the safety of both the staff and the patient.
Costs & Logistics
How much does it cost?
Costs vary according to location and the patients needs but will include a single house call fee per visit ($75-125 for travel), an exam fee per patient, plus costs for services and medications.
Medication?
Medications can be picked up at our parking location at the Hermitage during specific days/times or at our medication Drop Box location. We also utilize our own on-line pharmacy (similar to Chewy) which delivers your pets medications and preventives right to your mailbox.
Emergencies
What about emergencies?
